If you really want to compete at the highest level and be seriously considered,GO TO BUTTE COLLEGE. My son was not considered worthy of a rating or stars coming out of high school. Just take your kid to some high profile camps so he has an opportunity to compete with other players that the "experts" believe he doesnt belong on the same field. It will be become very clear that the experts are clueless. I took Nelson to 23 camps. The "experts" glance at players while talking to each other. At the conclusion, they interview the kids they already rated highly, take pictures of their golden boys and leave. The next day we read about how great their highly rated kid performed. Believe me, IT'S ALL GOOD.

They get them out, just like RCC does. Almost 30 went to 4 year colleges from RCC this past season.

Eltigre, tell Craft good job...if he even knows.

Fishman,

As far as coaches/scouts. Out of HS it is a popularity contest. One major school shows even a little interest in a player and that player's stock rises. Players are being profiled in their freshman and sophomore years these days. JUCO to 4 years is more proven on the field and you are right about Butte. Them and a hand full of other North JUCO schools constantly move kids on. But, here is my point. Now, go to the NFL and it's like you are back in HS again. Once a team has sold on a player, they are committed financially and emotionally. These 5 million dollar bonuses to rookies are bogus. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the players getting their due. But, if a rookie is paid 5 mil for showing up to camp, then a 2nd year guy should get the same. Just my honest opinion.

OP and T-Man hit the nail on the head. It is strictly a popularity contest in HS. the "experts" are clueless and rely on the hype to make their job easy for them. The pros are all about commercialism were popularity equals the big bucks. PS: Congrats Fishback for making it despite the odds. WKU is getting a good one.

I couldn't agree more, and thank you. It's interesting how one visit created so much interest from other schools. However, we heard a lot of the same things from other schools that we heard when Nelson was in high school. They want to "bring him out" and we really "like what we see". Patrino had no hesitation. Flew him out for an official visit, offered him and followed up with a couple personal phone calls to me. It didn't come down to conference, stadium size or glory. It was about the bottom line and opportunity to compete. This is a business. We've heard all the rhetoric in high school. They just wind up taking the kid from the big, metropolitan high school with stars after their name. Patrino was definitive and confident that Nelson could compete for the starting job. It was that simple.

A recruit in HS is seen much more in a big city enviromrnt where a coach can hit perhaps a radius of 10 HSs in any given day........... so, they will concentrate on the LA and SF areas.......... Bakersfield , Fresno and Sacrament areas in Ca...... very seldom making a trip to Turlock Ca. which BTW is where Colin Kaepernick was discovered in HS by only 1 D1 school and garnered his only scholarship offer by U of Nevada head coach Chris Ault............ Athletes need exposure to get offers and many times the small communities do not afford them that oppurtunity.............
