Bobby Hurley to arizona state

One of the few remaining people that actually would've been a good hire for the scummies. He's a majority threat to bolt to an east coast job asap but he might do good things at asu. Meaning a tournament appearance or two in 4-5 seasons. It was hard to dislike sendek but Hurley is someone that is easy to hate as a flopping dookie.

Hurley is one of the few Duke guys I don't hate. It would be impossible for me not to dislike the coach in Tempe, though. Not sure how much of a factor it is in his life, but Tempe > Buffalo.

It's a good start(power 5) for Bobby; however we know if he is successful he will work his way back East.

Yup if in 3-4 years he has actually signed a couple good recruits and taken asu to a tournament or two he'll bolt to the first duke/unc/Syracuse/Villanova/gtown/Louisville/st. John's/Maryland/Indiana job that opens.

I think Bobby should have waited a year or two bc I don't think ASU is a place someone can have a lot of success and I remember reading the administration there has unrealistic expectations.

It isn't. Mediocre facilities, absolutely no fan base, no history or tradition. I don't see him being there for more than 4 years whether it's because he's fired or because he actually has a little success and bolts back east. His entire career has been east of the Appalachian mountains and he doesn't fit in a place like Phoenix.

Wow. Terribly impulsive decision by Hurley, he had other options, decided to stay at Buffalo presumably to wait for a bigger fish, and then takes a job incredibly far away from his recruiting base in a state where he is an easy second fiddle to his rival.

Unless I am missing something, this is a potential career killer with the upside being a mid tier east coast job should he make a few NCAA tournaments.

Great hire for ASU, no doubt. Pac-12 is super weak at the moment and he has a chance to turn them into a top-half-of-the-conference type of of team rather quickly. As long as Bagley doesn't end up there in a few years, this shouldn't have any affect on Arizona and at least make it a better basketball rivalry.

It's been a graveyard for coaches for awhile but if he can win there, he'll be considered for bigger jobs pretty quickly. Pac 12 is down and Arizona and UCLA can't grab everybody. If Hurley can get an ace recruiter with California ties, it wouldn't take long to become a top 3-4 program in the Pac 12. But if he fails, it definitely sets him back.

Definitely an option for the short term (that I expect Hurley to be there). Arizona did that in the beginning of Miller's tenure. It's always hard to get kids to come across the country though.
