RAYMOND -- Twelfth-ranked Gulf Coast jumped out to a 34-2 first-half lead en-route to a 47-8 thrashing over Hinds on Thursday night.
The victory sets up a South Division title showdown on Oct. 23 against eighth-ranked Jones County (6-1, 4-1) at A.L. May Stadium in Perkinston.
A Gulf Coast win would give the Bulldogs (6-2, 4-1 South Division) a second straight division title and state playoff berth. A loss virtually ends Gulf Coast's season.
Should Pearl River and Gulf Coast both win out, the Bulldogs have the head-to-head tiebreaker over the eighth-ranked Wildcats.
Demond Washington's 70-yard punt return was among many highlights for the defending state and co-NJCAA national champions.
